This letter was sent by a STP supporter to make the point that those who care about church buildings can be prepared to fund a renaissance in church activities. In 10 years, £600,000 has been invested in his church, 95% coming from secular sources and private donations from non-churchgoers. The church remains open for worship, the building is preserved and it has developed a role as a community hub.

“A CORRESPONDENT whose letter is published this week suggests that something that the Church Commissioners should do with the resources that they hold in trust is “allocate a tiny fraction of their capital gain of £550 million in 2020 to clear the £12-million deficit accumulated by parishes in 2020 owing to Covid.”
It is said that we tend to undervalue that with which we are most familiar but in our small parish (about 150 inhabitants) thanks to the foresight of the Diocese and especially the vision of one Archdeacon, we have learned afresh the importance of the traditional parish system which has, for centuries, given the church a foothold in every community.
