Church of England dropping word ‘church’ to be more ‘modern’

The Church of England is increasingly dropping the word “church” in favour of “relevant and modern-sounding” descriptions such as “community”, a new study suggests.

The Anglican church appears to be increasingly avoiding the word “church” when discussing the creation of new worshipping communities and congregations, a report has found.

  1. It is the Church of England. Pity the Arch bishop keep to church matters instead of politics, in another 50 years our children/ grandchildren will be subject to living in a Muslim country, Oliver Cromwell will be turning in his grave.

  2. A year ago I moved from worship in our cathedral to a Society church. I feel sad that the word of God seems to have been cast aside by the ‘new thinking’ Church of England – yes, CHURCH – and the wishes of minority groups been put first.
    I will never stop using the word church.
    Jesus gave Peter his new name to symbolise the building of God’s church here on earth. We, as Christians, are among those building blocks and I have always considered myself a part of this ekklesia, and see no reason to change one of the most important words in the Anglican faith after 2000 + years.
    Our Archbishops have lost their way and should, through the sacrament of reconciliation, pray for forgiveness.

  3. This is the fulfilment of bible prophecy that in the end times many will depart from the faith.
    I ask that who ever wishes to contact me can I give permission to do this.

  4. After all the word church is not in the original manuscripts. Words like congregation, or ekklesia are found in original language manuscripts but not church. To me this is not extraordinary at all.
