Save The Parish welcomes appointment of new Archbishop of Canterbury
Hearty congratulations to Bishop Sarah Mullally as she becomes our new Archbishop of Canterbury. I really wish her all the luck in the world as she takes the tiller to steer our rickety ark in the very stormy seas of church and world politics. With trust between congregations and the national church at its lowest, I pray she is able to show the hard-pressed laity and clergy in our parishes the love and support they so desperately need. Having known her personally as my bishop for seven years I really am pleased that someone who is deeply pastoral is stepping to the shoes of St Augustine. She also has a proper eye to the parishes, and deep care for the poorer parishes, as she showed when she decided to redirect millions of pounds towards Lower Income Communities Funding, which will be a godsend to hard-pressed congregations in the most deprived communities in England.
Almighty and everlasting God, who alone workest great marvels: Send down upon Bishop Sarah Mullally, Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, our Bishops, Clergy, and all Congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of thy grace; and that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual dew of thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honour of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.
